Entertaining version of the fairy tale, written for children. Gray very cleverly frames the action in a fantasy kingdom which has fallen under a demon's enchantment: all the inhabitants have become stupid, and the crown prince has been kidnapped. The enchantment will only be lifted if the crown prince returns.

Everyone is too stupid to commit crime, so the soldiers grow bored with nothing to do. The Emperor and his chancellor decide to enact a law making all foreigners criminals. The guards now eagerly search the kingdom for foreigners (so far so Brexit).

The crown prince has been brought up by gypsies in a foreign kingdom. He now returns home, disguised as a tailor who claims he can produce magical clothes.

One of Gray's better efforts, imo. Would love to see these staged, but they are so far out of fashion it's highly unlikely
