I've read pretty much all thrillers this month because I'm team horror/thriller for #blackathon2022 . However, I got a little burned out on thrillers and needed to chill a little bit, and really, I can't think of a better way to chill out than an enemies-to-lovers, grumpy/sunshine romance. Throw in the fact that this romance actually handles important topics (chronic pain, domestic abuse, trauma) AND has some of the funniest writing I've ever read in a romance and honestly? Consider me chilled. There wasn't really anything about this book I didn't like. I especially loved Chloe Brown herself as a character. Chloe suffers from chronic pain, but it was never her entire schtick. She's also thoughtful, loving to her eccentric family, and has a very cute and unique fashion sense. I feel like she's going to be stuck in my head for a long time.
If you don't like romance, I feel like you might still like this, honestly. There isn't an insta-lovey bone in its body, it deals with real problems, and each character is lovable in their own way. Seriously, even if you hate romance, I think you'll like this. Just. Trust me.

Soon, the list will make little sense to Chloe, life will be more than it, much more, and both our characters will be left dazed and unsure how to proceed.
I really enjoyed this romance even if it is very instantaneous, by the way, it does happen in real life you know. It was also great to address things left out of most romances and stories in general, like severe chronic illnesses, the effects of it, the loss of friendships due to lack of understanding and respect, and more, and also abusive relationships where the man is the victim. Chloe is also described a Black, soft and curvy girl, on the heavy side, which is always great for diversity and inclusion. It’s important that everyone can find someone they identify with in fiction. Also, the interactions between Red and Chloe felt so real and candid, and he is great, and the smut is well written not too overwhelming, although it’s not something I’m overly fond of when it’s a lot, and it is a bit. Plus, it’s funny and witty, even with the heavy subjects also dealt in it.
It’s not a masterpiece but if you like the genre you should definitely give it a go. It’s not my go to genre but it’s one I enjoy to read in one sitting which I did.
