If you like reading great battles, you need Dark Alpha's Awakening NOW.
If you like reading good conquering evil you need to read Dark Alpha's Awakening NOW.
If you enjoy reading about the fae you need to grab Dark Alpha's Awakening now.
If you love second chance romances this book is perfect for you.
If you love the underdog coming out ahead you will want to devour Dark Alpha's Awakening.

Book after book, we have watch Death struggling to crush Bran. He always seems to be one step ahead. He had taken her power. He is taking her life. It all comes down to this book, this story and those that stand by her side. This story has so many moments that I would have closed my eyes if it was on the big screen. This story has a romance that has been in the making for centuries. Swoon.

Dark Alpha's Awakening was everything wrapped up into one book.

*I received an ARC from NetGallery in exchange for an honest review
This is one of my top 2 in this series. This couple was a long time coming and Grant did not disappoint. Cael is a strong hero and Erith finally becomes the person she was meant to. Grants still continues to intrigue us about Rhi as well. This wraps up this story line well and still leaves openings for the Reapers to continue without dragging out the plot.

So, what did I like about it?
I think I can now class myself as a fan of Ms Grant’s books as I’ve read a few of them. I find her writing style easy to read and I like the way she paces the development of the plot. I love the fantasy world that Ms Grant has created and that her characters are not black or white, good or evil but allowed to be complex souls with a multifaceted mix of positive and negative traits.

I connect to a story more if the lead female character is intelligent, resilient and can look after herself; I wasn’t disappointed here. Erith is an amazing character and I loved learning about her history and how she found her purpose. I liked the way that all of the characters in this story were written - even the villain of the tale – none of them were flat 2-dimensional creations, they all felt very real.

Based on the books that I’ve read so far, I realise that Ms Grant loves the romantic aspect between her lead couple to be concluded by the end of each book; I love Happy Ever After endings too. Woop! Woop!

This book isn’t just about the romance between our main couple, there are various aspects weaved together in this book and I liked that we were a fly on so many walls, getting to learn what drives the characters to do what they do while trying to piece together the mystery before Cael and Erith.

Dark Alpha’s Awakening managed to surprise me a few times, had me reaching for a tissue or two *sniff*, growling in anger and holding my breath on the edge of my seat worried what would happen next but fear not dear reader there was also plenty of banter to put a smile on my face and enough building passion to titillate anyone’s fancy. I found myself desperate to find out what would happen next, staying up late to finish just one more chapter, in other words I was gripped!

So, ummm, was there anything I disliked about it?
I really loved Dark Alpha’s Awakening but here’s where I have to be completely honest and tell you why my rating was 4 stars rather than 5.

You may think I’m being mean, but it’s mainly because of how the epilogue ended. Dark Alpha’s Awakening features a few existing background story arcs that have been ongoing through the series and continues through this story and beyond and that’s OK because I feel that the current situation was concluded to my satisfaction - the girl got her man and the villain was thwarted but what I hate is life-or-death cliffhangers, hooks yes but cliffhangers like the one here, even those relating to supporting characters, is a big no-no for me!

So, basically what I’m saying is...
I really enjoyed this novel; it was a tale that kept me reading from start to finish – I was hooked! Dark Alpha’s Awakening has everything that I look for in a good story; adventure, mystery, action, great characters, some humour, romance and a sprinkling of passion.

Due to the graphic nature of the violence and sex scenes, I would only recommend this book to adults who are not offended by this sort of content. If you enjoy paranormal romance tales with a multi-layered “against-the-clock” backstory that keeps you turning the pages from start to finish with honourable alpha heroes and heroines with plenty of gumption, lots of action alongside beautiful romance, oh and enough titillation to make you blush on the bus, then this novel is definitely one for you.

So, before I go, I want you to know that I was given a digital version of this book for free from the publisher (St Martin’s Press) in exchange for an honest review.

A storyline we have all longed for

I am so glad to finally be reading one of the romances we have all been waiting for. It may not be Rhi and her King, but Erith and Cael are a very lose second. That longing they have had for centuries has been hard to ignore, but discipline kept it at bay. Until Death started to weaken and Cael could not take losing her without at least telling her how he feels. Things never go exactly as planned, especially while fighting Bran and keeping the Reapers women safe from his vengeance. I really enjoyed their story. It had it all. A thrilling, unpredictable battle to the death that takes us all over and has us meeting a few familiar faces. Definitely can't wait to read the next one! Definitely not to be missed !

Dark Alpha's Awakening is book 7 in the Reaper series by Donna Grant and boy is it a good one. I have been enjoying this series and yes I love this book as much as the others.
This story got me hooked from the very beginning and I just couldn't put it down. It is so darn good.
I give this 5 out of 5.

So I have been so invested in this world Donna Grant has created. I have been a fan since Dangerous Highlander. I have loved every single character and I am just so in love with everything about this series and all the ones before it. I feel like I have been waiting for this book in particular for such a long time. Death is such an interesting character. I wanted her story from the first Reaper book and I was not at all disappointed.

If you haven't read this series I highly recommend it. This series is technically a spin off of the Dark Kings series and I absolutely think they should be read in the correct order. Plus like I said this world is fantastic and you really don't want to miss out on a single word Donna Grant writes!

This.Was.Great. I will admit that I was a little sad that we didn't get any of the Kings, but I was still completely happy with this. Cael and Erith have loved the other for so long that when they finally got together it was completely believable and sweet. With Erith reclaiming her sword, the battle against Bran is taken up a couple notches and it was pretty exciting. I was actually convinced for most of the book that this was the last in the series (which I didn't see coming)....but then it wasn't! And oh am I looking forward to what comes next.

With Erith having made up her mind about what she's going to do about Bran, it's time to move things along. And part of that is her not ignoring Cael anymore. Boy did that make him angry, and he lets her know. Instead of being outraged at how Cael starts treating her, Erith gets more turned on the bossier he gets. Until they're both quickly swept away in their feelings for each other. Erith is worried that by taking her sword in hand again that she will revert back to her old self that lived for the kill. Fortunately Cael is quite certain that with him by her side, and the other Reapers, that she will realize all she has now and will be able to remain her current self. Just, you know, with all the added power she gets from the sword.

When Cael meditates, he is able to see how a battle will go and who will be there. With this coming battle, he knows that there are two people who can decide the outcome. Unfortunately he has no idea who one of them is. As it turns out, neither one is surprising although one of them was interesting
SpoilerI am getting so frustrated with Balladyn because he does bad things to make you hate him, but then (especially here) he does good or shows his light self again. Then I get all pissed off because I don't want to like the guy!
. While neither played a part that I expected, both were indeed very important.

Erith is fortunate to have found certain fae that are loyal to her and who want to help. Although one of them did majorly stumble until he found his way again. There's a whole lot fighting, a bunch of backstabbing, some horrible torture, and even someone coming back from the dead. In other words? It was awesome. The final showdown was believable and everyone had their part. I was super happy with it.

Oh, and damn it if all of Erith's cryptic talk of Rhi doesn't have me insanely curious about what she knows is coming.

I'm not entirely sure where this is going now, but I really can't wait to find out.

This is the first book I have read in the Reapers series and I LOVED it! I now have to go back and read the whole series. I will say that I was able to enjoy the whole story but I do think that you need to read the rest of the books for the full picture. Cael and Erith have had feelings for each other for a long time and finally give in! Though I have not read the series I could still feel the angst of two lovers who have had to resist their feelings and know that fans of the series must be excited. I don’t want to give to much of the story away but there is action, romance, suspense and a page turning plot! Donna Grant has build an amazing paranormal world that is a joy to delve into with each book!

I enjoyed the final book in the first group of Reapers. It was neat to finally see Death and Cael finally get together after all the hints and looks dropped in the previous books. It was interesting to follow Death on her journey, to experience the moments when she allowed herself to feel and become fully herself again. At times her and Cael's internal angst were a little too much, but overall it was a great read. Solid 3.5
I listened to the audio book. The same excellent narrator covers all the books.
