I was bored while listening to it via audiobook. It wasn't bad, but I felt like I was just ready for it to be over.

This book had so much potential. It just fell short in so many areas for me. The world and fantasy elements are great. The first half was good! I was invested in the first half and then it just fell flat. I wanted more from the romance. There is a second book and I really don’t think I can bring myself to read another one, if it continues the way this book ended. It might just not be for me.

I like this book, it's good and I would absolutely love to continue it but school has gotten in the way of me trying to finish it. I also just don't feel like reading it and it's going to stay there forever before I find it in me to pick it up again. I will continue to read this book, someday and I know myself very well that I won't be reading this after my exams. Also the romance in this seems very insta which I don't prefer but it's still cute, the writing is also beautiful and gorgeous. Hopefully, I'll  continue to read this again soon.

I quite liked this, but it didn't have the full immersive draw you in and you never want to leave feeling of some high fantasy. It's a very clear reimagining of Chinese history/geography/mythology and that made it easier to track aspects of the story without necessarily having strong world building. I liked our two main characters and their dynamics.
