shadow and bone is your typical ya fantasy. it contains of course a love triangle, fantastic world building, escapism, and an old, attractive villain. regardless it being cliche, i definitely still enjoyed it. bardugo’s writing is impeccable— i always have a difficult time understanding the first chapters of her books, but once you grasp it, you’d be amazed with the world building. if it didn’t have cliche elements, i would probably give it a higher rating. overall, i give it 3 stars. (i can’t wait to meet nikolai again in the next book).

This book was okay but I did not like the main character at all so I had a hard time rooting for her. Her only thoughts were either about guys or about not fitting in wherever she was which I felt was really annoying because she did very well. The world-building was done and I might continue the series just to see maybe some better characters in the future.

książka bardzo fajna, styl lekki, jednak czegoś brakowało, ciężko mi stwierdzić czego
zobaczymy co będzie w oblężeniu i nawałnicy (ㆁωㆁ)
edit: ocenę zmieniam na wyższą, ponieważ książka miała świetny klimat
bardzo polecam

I have very mixed feelings about this series. I love the world it's set in and most of the plot (specifically the first book), but the characters just fall short. They are all very one-sided and are difficult to connect to... except for Nikolai. I absolutely adore Nikolai. He was such a necessary part of the second book because parts of it were so painfully slow and he was the only reason I was interested in reading it. The third book was very good plot-wise as well. And there was a lot more going on than there was in the second book. But (spoiler) I really didn't like the way it ended.
