What you think you are, you aren't. For every decision you make, there is a path you will never travel. And that makes you, you. Because the life you live can never be lived by someone else. It's ok to be ambitious, but it is also ambitious to live a 'normal' life. That's good enough.

“You’ll wake up soon. It’s Christmas Eve morning. And I loved you.” ARGHHHH IM SO FRICKIN SAD. What is up with Backman and MAKING PEOPLE SAD. This was like a contemp version of Ivan Ilych by Tolstoy but much more touching because it’s really personal and directed to the son

The Deal of a Lifetime is a novella by Fredrik Backman who is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Honestly, this man could write about garbage and it would end up being beautiful and wise. There's just something so moving and bold about the way Backman writes that captures me in a way that no other author can. But anyways, back to The Deal of a Lifetime. Don't let the cover and the gorgeous illustrations throughout the story fool you into thinking it is a lighthearted Christmas read. It's not. It is raw and makes you question what you would really be willing to sacrifice in order to help someone else. It took me 30 minutes or so to read and honestly, I'll probably read it once more before returning it to the library. If you are a Backman fan, or even if you haven't read any of his work yet, make sure to read this one. 4/5🌟
