When the world is on fire, and those who set the blaze are being handed matches by the people whose homes are burning, there are few stories that are truly satisfying. This is one of those stories. This story is vivid and horrific and delightfully cathartic.
This fairy tale horror story subverts tropes in the best way and I loved getting to read it. It was exactly to my taste. I look forward to reading more from the author.

Brilliantly Dark and Twisted
When I got to the end, I wanted to stand up and scream BRAVA! It is no mean feat to convey an entire relationship fraught with disgust and hatred into a very short story. This author has mastered it.

I really enjoyed this short audiobook. Holy moly it was disturbing though. TW for animal cruelty because some of the stuff that happen to these poor animals is so horrendous and gruesome. I liked the twist of the story of the “wicked” stepmother and her stepchild, the prince. Usually it’s the stepmother who treats the child wickedly, but in this case it’s the child who is wicked and the stepmother is just trying to save others from him. The story was also told in such a fairytale-poetic way that made it so pleasant to listen to, despite the gory content.
