I don't know what it was about the book, but something really just gave me the ick with all the characters. I tried to push through and finish, but I couldn't.
FMC kept swapping between a woman who was flirty and seductive but immediately would change to be whiny and scared.
The guy just seemed like he was a psychopath and I could feel an assault scene coming up between them.
I think the actual plot line is a great idea, but it was not executed.

Look, was it terrible to read all the torture and the twisted mafia stuff? Yes. Did i skip some of it? Absolutely. But did it also fuel my need for REAL enemies to lovers? Yes.

I saw a tiktok where part of this was mentioned and that's what made me want to read it... come to find out, it's literally the last scene in the book. The first 30% I was almost ready to give up, felt like it took forever for them to even meet, and then the skimming over details so you don't know what had happened in their pasts ugh. But then, all of a sudden, I couldn't stop reading. For a darker romance, it has a good amount of them seeing a future happily ever after, although that isn't the case by the end... yet? Hopefully.
The first part of the book? Like a 2 star, only in the sense that it was not what I was wanting.
The rest of the book? 5 stars

I absolutely live for a mafia romance and this was definitely right up my lane. We have your typical mafia family who use the women in the family as a business transaction and boy this poor girl. Everyone including her family think she’s crazy and just wants to be dramatic but no one actually listens to her. Then we have Raf who legit wants revenge and will do whatever he needs to in order to get it. My heart broke the whole time for Noelle the way she was treated by not just Raf but especially her family. Honestly this is a true enemies to lovers book but it does leave us on a major cliffhanger. I’m still not enough sure what happened but the entire book had me guessing until the end. Good news in hopefully we won’t be waiting long for book 2 because I need answers. Like honestly that final page, I think my jaw dropped and stayed there for a good five minutes until I picked it up off the floor. This story was so intriguing that I couldn’t put it down and my work may have suffered a bit the next day. Completely worth it.
I truly believe that Veronica is such an underrated author. Hands down one of the best who knows how to keep the stories going, it’s the mystery of what happened in Rafs, Noelles and Michele’s past that makes me just not want to stop! I read this book in a day… I just could not put it down! In this book I truly felt Noelles feelings, I felt Veronica really out the emotion into her character that made me want to find out what on earth happened to her. While I truly felt she was a victim I also felt Rafs feelings of pure rage towards her was also legit so I was hooked!!

I’m not a fan of the “enemies to lovers” trope but OMG… this book is definitely the exception! So much going on in this book that I can’t wait to go on to the next book.
This is an amazing start to the series! I can’t wait to read more!
