longest 200 pages I've ever read. This book is so vapid that when something interesting happens you're left with your jaw on the floor. The ending wasn't a shock but was unexpected timing.

I feel as if I always see Oscar Wilde's work recommended in all of those autumnal reading lists, so it is quite fitting that I could only finish this book, which put me in the most adamant reading slump, in an unnaturally cool summer. I face the same issues with this book as I did with his short story collection, namely that for some strange reason I couldn't fully connect with it. It reminds me of two of my favorite novels, the writing was obviously beautiful, and the plot was unique, but I still had to inch my way through every chapter. I can't give this book any less than four starts because duh, it's the Picture of Dorian Gray, however if I were rating based on my enjoyment and the personal impact it procured, it's definitely more of a three star read. Maybe I'll enjoy his non-fiction more.
