Une lecture éblouissante qui a fait saigner tout le graphite de ma maison. Selon le livre, «difficilement traduisible» est l’éloge maximal. Sans doute une autoréférence en vue de tout son contenu et en particulier de cet extrait:

Oui, peut-être; mais la vie, rajoutais-je, n’est rien d’autre que le trait d’union du mot peut-être. Je tente de marcher sur ce mince tiret. Tant pis s’il cède sous mon poids: je verrai alors ce qui vit ou est crevé en dessous.

The only dissapointing this in the book is the conclusion of the main slow burn, a little frustrating knowing that it's been teased for 500 pages.
The writing is mindblowing. It's a perfectly written masterpiece, it is so clever. The language registers shift so smoothly, every charachter has its own way of expressing himself/herself which is so hard to achieve as an author.
We get to discover many topics, charachters and even countries cause they travel which is great. I truly appreciated the complexity of charachters and the depth of the topics. Definitely worth reading this chunky book. Is it so contradictory and absurd in the literal sense that it got prized and well deserved!
Very odd to have a sexual passage in such early part of the novel.

not my kinda of thing- i don’t love reflective novels
A flawed book in some respects - the Bolaño influence was a little too obvious at times; at other times it was overly dramatic; then there's a dip into magical realism that felt inserted just to create a "sinister" atmosphere. In short, too stylistically self-conscious. Yet what Mbougar Sarr was trying to do shone through so brilliantly at the end I just didn't care.
Kunnianhimoinen, hieno kieli, antaa odottaa paljon. Teemana kolonialismin muovaamat identiteetit ja kulttuuriskene kiinnostaa. Kuitenkin vähän lopahtaa matkalla, enkä oikein tiedä mitä tästä jää käteen. Jälleen yksi kirja kirjoittamisesta.
