-"It isn't what has been done to each of us. It's a system that tells women they are unreliable, and then expendable. That our truths don't matter when set side by side with a man's."
-"If we don't tell our own stories, we'll never take control of the narrative."
-"You know, life is long. Lots of things can go wrong and still end up all right."

Claire's life looks picture perfect, with her beautiful home and loving husband, his accompanying generational wealth and well-renowned family. But behind closed doors, her husband has been physically and emotionally abusive for years. During an upcoming trip to support her husband's family's foundation, Claire plans to leave her life behind. But a last minute change of plans requires quick thinking from Claire, and a chance meeting leaves her and a stranger switching flights. But when the flight to Puerto Rico that she was supposed to be on crashes, and an investigation into the crash underway, Claire understands that she can't breathe just yet. Claire chooses to hide behind the identity of the woman who swapped flights with her, Eva James. But who, or what, was Eva running from?

Fast paced, with some predictable twists and some less so - which I appreciate! The relationships between various characters kept me guessing throughout, always wondering who was going to be the one to step out of the shadows. One thing I was left wondering was
if Claire was purposely put on that plane, and her husband was hoping for a negative outcome because it was mentioned that this company had previously had issues with their planes?
There are so many considerations throughout, it wouldn't be too far-fetched IMO.

This book felt so much shorter than it actually was. There was so much going on but not passing by too quickly that you can’t appreciate. I loved that two completely different stories were being told at one time, both interesting for their own reasons.

At many points I though I knew exactly where this book was going just for it to turn direction, right up to the last couple of pages.

I was massively unsold this book simply on the premise of ‘two women from desperate situations switch plane tickets’. It was so much more than that.

Liz was a character I really loved, it’s refreshing to see such positivity, especially within the life of someone who has had a much more negative upbringing. I love that liz helped Eva see what her life could be and it’s heartbreaking that ultimately it wasn’t enough.

“It takes a long time to learn how to see the world as a place where people aren’t doing things to you.”

“He was just acting on his own desires, living his own story.”

“Everything you ever wanted is on the other side of fear.”
