A simple animal board book. But too simple for me. Repetitive. And the flaps were flimsy. And the animals weren't named - which though obvious to me (and presumably everyone), not naming them is wrong. And the ending was kind of boring. Good for what it was, but not awesome.

A cute, fun-to-read book with interesting flaps for your little one.

As a child my little sister had this book and she's now almost 30 so this book has been popular for a few decades.

My son choose it from the library and I gave it a go. I was worried it would be too simple for him - he didn't like spot when he was not even 12 months. Turned out he liked this and I'm tempted to buy it. The different animals gives the parent the opportunity to try encourage different sounds.

I borrowed the bilingual version (English/Arabic) and the animals were not named. I think an older child (my son is 1.5y) would call out the animals name. It truly is a classic with lots of ways to enjoy sharing the story.

Imagine if the zoo sent you a pet, would you be happy with whatever you get? My son loves this book. The flaps are so much fun. I recommend it to everyone.

(Forgive me, but sometimes I just can't help bit rhyme.)

We have both a board book and a paperback.

Baby loves them, and seems to make no distinction between board book or paperback. She's very good at waiting until just the right moment to lift the flap.

I am worried about the moral of this story. I do not wish for my Baby to (a) think she can write to a zoo for a pet, (b) think she can keep wild animals as pets (c) think she can return gifts ad nauseum or (d) want a puppy.

Probably the toddler's favorite. He likes to make the animal sounds (on a related note - anyone know what sound a giraffe makes?). The 6 year old also enjoys reading it to him, so it might be my favorite book as well.
