DID NOT FINISH: 34%

I wanted to continue with this book as I did enjoy parts of it but I just couldn’t bring myself to finish it.

DNF. I got halfway in this doorstop of a book and just can’t keep going. Meandering, navel-gazing, ultimately boring. The writing is good, but why this subject matter? Just not for me.

the concept of this was interesting and unique. the author takes readers into the lives of Jack and Elizabeth—how they fell in love, how their relationship progressed and grew complicated with parenthood and friendships and intimacy, and how their families and upbringing influenced who they became later in life.

the author is clearly a good writer, can write characters really well, and has a great plot in mind here—but it was just way too long. there were so many chapters droning on about Facebook conspiracies and fitness trackers and AI that I often lost steam and lost interest and just couldn’t wait for the book to be over. which was really a shame, because the story underneath it all was great.
