So many parts of this book were annoying and it took me three loan periods from the library to finish, but the last 25% was decent as the story lines came together.

A great read about identity, partnership, love, and relationships.
It took me a minute to seep into the story. There were a few moments that felt stretched out. Some chapters felt a bit detached from where the story could have been going.
Would recommend if you’re looking for a longer read with different perspectives

I loved this book so fully. It was so relatable and so perfect for me.
I absolutely sobbed towards the end, and if you know me you know that's my marker of a 5 star read - not many books actually make me laugh and/or cry - this one did both. It shattered me so completely and was exactly what I needed at this particular point in my life.
There was exactly one point of this book that I thought "goodness this is dragging, let's move along" but truthfully in a 600+ page book I'm absolutely shocked that it was just once. Also, I'm not sure that I'd really want to cut any of it down, it all meant something.
Ugh, so good.

I loved this book. Ambitious and voluminous in scope, but with so much heart. [a:Nathan Hill] has a lot of opinions about SO many things: parenthood, gentrification, marriage/monogamy, art, technology …. and he didn’t miss a single opportunity to opine. There were some areas of bloat that could have been edited down (i.e. seven chapters on the evolution of Facebook’s algorithm maybe weren’t necessary), but Hill ties everything together well enough that none of it feels superfluous by the end.
I learned that the first chapter of this book was a short story that Hill wrote 20 years ago. And he picked it up and thought “I wonder how this couple is doing today?” — resulting in this book. The end product is an engrossing and real-feeling examination of marriage and love. I just loved it.
