Recently I found myself emotionally affected by the idea of failed marriages and how sad it is that two people can just fall out of love. I saw this book as an opportunity for a bit of exposure therapy and was greatly comforted by the portrait of love it presents. Soulmates don't exist and not all marriages will make it but it makes a big difference just to try, to choose someone over and over again, day after day. The story is written in a stream-of-consciousness, run-on-sentence style that might turn some people off, but I liked it because it matches the voice in my head. It also has some pretty insufferable characters but there are tons people IRL are insufferable too. I didn't mind the lengthy sections about child psychology and social media algorithms because it felt current and connected the story to real world phenomena. The whole thing was brilliantly done.
TL;DR: I see why some people didn't love it but I did.

I love Hill’s writing and can hardly process the amount of research that went into this novel. It's so ambitious. Relevant, smart, thought-provoking.

So we're just not going to acknowledge that "The Unraveling" occurred on Obama's election day? In Chicago?! I get that these characters are self-absorbed, but I found it very distracting.
