3 1/2 stars rounded down. I dunno... I definitely wanted to follow along and see how it all turned out, so it kept me engaged in that sense... but all the deep dives into random topics were chapters that could have been sentences. That totally messed up the pacing and my own enjoyment. But I loved the overall arc of the story and the writing (when it wasn't a deep dive).

Epic. My favorite book for a long time! Combines cynicism with modern life (fad diets, social medial, …) with pondering questions of romantic love. Such a beautiful book!
To me this is a “don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater” situation, and I don’t think I’ve felt this way about a book before. It’s too long, yes. It’s too “explainy” here and there, yes. But it’s also a pretty sharp take on the modern social and relational existence imo. I’m GenX and have been thinking about it since I finished it so I thought I’d share. :)

Oh I have wept through this. Nathan Hill created a world so real and so believable it made it hard not to hate and equally empathise with the characters. The world building was exquisite and this novel is devastating, LOVED the state of nation side of it also, absolutely hilarious!
This book was really slow. Honestly, it was well written but in excruciating detail. Whole chapters would describe a single day where nothing happened.
I had to quit. Just wasn’t for me.
