i have since learned about many valid criticisms of the author and his politics (which obviously affect his writing), and so i will not be leaving a rating. however, this novel used to be my favourite from the author

Despite popular opinion, I think this is Khaleds weakest book (from the 3 that I have read.) Maybe some was lost in translation (since I was reading in Norwegian) but the story didn’t grasp my heart like ¨The Kite Runner¨ or ¨ A thousand Shining Suns¨ (both 5 stars with ¨The Kite Runner¨ being my all time favourite book.)

When Pari and Abdullah finally reunited (which was expected and anticipated the entire book), it felt like it was too late. This is probably very realistic since an entire lifetime had gone by. Khaled Hosseini is my favourite author, but I should stick to reading him in English.

This book got me stuck in the middle, thinking how far life could get unfair to one. Is it how events add up in life or simply the misfortune to be blamed?
The book has taught me that if you’re healthy, and have people who recognise you, then please consider yourself lucky and do the fruitful.

I liked some parts more than others. It really depended on which character that was currently in focus. I'm not very fond of following several somewhat connected characters that have their own stories. Some parts were pretty emotional and even made me shed a few tears.
