nice retelling of rumplestilskin - made me nostalgic for the week we did revised fairy tales in MFYA. beginning was a little slow, but one night huddled under the covers with it towards the end made a huge dent.

Excellent book. Four stars because, while it is definitely good, I probably won't read it again.

I like this book but I didn't love it. I was left with too many questions at the end. Did Pinchfields kill her father because of the legal issues? Did Jack Spinner take away all of the baby Miller boys? It was a good book, but there were parts where I went "huh?"

in all honesty it was the cover of the book that made me read it. i loved it in the beginning but i think it was a bit slow moving in the middle. i was impressed at in the end, but it was a bit slow moving. i loved the story behind the names what a name means and to what length one will go to have a good name.

Read half of it, flipped through the rest. Decent story though.

This book was pretty depressing. Death, bad luck, problems, debt... it all seems to happen in this book and while I understand that it's all because of the Miller "curse" it got pretty tiresome after awhile. I also didn't like how horrible Charlotte was to her husband and then she didn't even have to fight to get him back. Not realistic. It was an interesting take on the Rumplestiltskin's (sp?) tale.

I read this when I was a teen and I remember enjoying it back then. I thought I’d listen to a bit to see if I wanted to revisit it, but it’s been very slow in the first 2 hours of audio. I think I’ve just outgrown this one.

This was excellently written, quite clean, and surprisingly normal for a fantasy book with a goth twist. I quite enjoyed it.

An elaborate retelling of Rumpelstiltskin, full of carefully-spun prose and a surprisingly complex mystery. Bunce manages to elicit sympathy on both sides of every bargain made. Once the nature of the curse on Stirwaters is unearthed, I still couldn't find anyone to outright hate. At times, the book does feel a bit on rails, making me question whether a character would have taken a certain action if the plot hadn't demanded it. And yet, in the end, A Curse Dark as Gold is just so well executed that it's hard not to be impressed after turning the last page. I wish more fairy tale retellings were as thoughtful and meticulous as this one.
