While I am more nostalgic for “No, David!” I cannot deny the superiority of this sequel.
It takes a bold approach of changing perspectives from the protagonist to the antagonist, giving us an unreliable narrator for the events that occur.
Given at face value, we are to expect that David does take accountability for his actions at the end, which is more than what can be said for the initial entry in this series. Who knows if he actually did though, as he could be lying to us as a narrator and he probably is cause he’s a dick.

The illustrations are GREAT but there's just not a whole lot of text or much of a story to it.

We call this "the naughty book" and read the book by saying "David was naughty and..." and then describe the picture. I don't think our 23 mo old is old enough to "get" this book, so it's important to be very clear about what's going on.

The text is certainly easy enough for beginner readers to read but I wasn't a fan of the illustrations at all. La Coccinelle's review summarizes it perfectly - David looks like a nightmarish version of Caillou.

Read this David Shannon hundreds of times as well. Fun to revisit this book again.

Another David book that doesn't disappoint. :) It's been a good way to teach our newly adopted son how we handle misbehavior and accidents here in the U.S. - and that the end result of all of those things is not a beating but rather forgiveness and a hug. :) (Not that he was beaten - but in his culture, a beating - or a spanking as we might call it - is usually the outcome, not grounding or talking-to or time out.)
