I mean for my three star rating of this book to be a huge compliment to the author. It's a novella, so obviously it's short, but I felt that the form of the story detracted from the Okorafor's stellar writing (no pun intended). There was so much more that I wanted to know--about the world(s), about the characters, about the science the underlies so much of the story. Binti is hugely imaginative, but packed into such a small amount of space that it made certain aspects of the story seem stunted and underdeveloped.

I'm hoping that this is something that will be remedied as I continue the rest of the series.

Although short, this novella is packed with emotion and loaded with allegory. It's an adventure from the first page to the last. The pace felt rushed and the ending was appropriate for a book much longer in length, but I loved the story and its characters.
