Exceptionally creepy and disturbing. This would make a really cool movie.

- At the beginning, it was hard to keep track of the characters
- I think the author built up suspense and created an uneasy atmosphere at the park
- I grew to really liking for some of the characters. I was really rooting for them

Mack’s backstory was so sad and the twist on how she stole her sister’s hiding spot was a bit shocking to me. I was also shocked that Brandon decided to kill himself to save the group. He was probably one of my favourite characters because of how genuinely sweet he was. The man just wanted to build a life with his new friends! I really wish there weren’t TWO Ava’s because it was a bit confusing at times to keep up. I initially thought that one of the contestants was The Killer or that they were being hunted for sport by rich people. I guess I was partially correct with the rich person part lol I honestly cannot picture the beast in my head properly so I low key wish the author had included an illustration of it somewhere at the end. The journal entry Ian (the writer) found was confusing as hell to me, but the chapter with Linda’s journal made a lot more sense and things really clicked then. I was expecting them to kill the beast at the end for some closure. However, the thrill of knowing that the beast is roaming free is CHILLING. I like how it makes you think about the remaining trio will manage, as well as everyone else in the bloodline.

This book just didn't work for me - the overall premise is great. The amusement park setting is creepy and the first chapter sets us up SO WELL for a great story. And then it just fizzles. The premise behind the hide and seek game is so far fetched that I couldn't get into it, then there are too many characters I'm supposed to care about with little to no background and then things start to unfold in a way that is both too long and somehow too short.

I'm disappointed by this book because the premise was so cool and abandoned theme parks are great horror settings. It felt like White had so much right and then it all kind of disappeared.

I began reading the book and almost dropped it. I was introduced to fourteen characters and I cared for none of them. Nor did I care for the way they were portrayed. Even after finishing, I am iffy about if I liked how the characters were written. At first, I was thrown off by how it was narrated. It felt like the author was trying to sprinkle exposition in for these characters when I couldn't care less about. Later, this same narrative tool became more effective as it focused in on the remaining characters, not all 14. Some characters you were clearly supposed to feel for, but I could not given how little time they had to expand those feelings. I resented that the book kept telling me how I was supposed to feel about these characters, only to feel that way about them. Just a little. I liked it much better when it was smaller groups. I cared enough about them and I felt for them. It wasn't perfect, but I appreciate what it had to say and the way it chose to say it.
