Such great world building and plotbut let down by the incessant philosophical and overdone monologues about time and destruction. All of the characters had the same tone qualities and thought processes. Unsatisfying overall.

This was very beautiful and bittersweet, with lyrical writing. Upon finishing, I can say this is definitely a journey before destination kind of book. There is an end goal driving the story for sure, but let’s just say that due to the nature of it, it wasn’t a satisfying ending in terms of anything being actually resolved, though it did have beauty.
I did enjoy the journey, more so than some other similarly slow books that focus on the characters and are fairly slice-of-life. There are moments of high tension, sadness and grief, warmth and friendship, laughter. There is some confusion built in, though parts of it can be deduced pretty clearly.
I’m glad I read it, but the ending wasn’t conclusive enough for my tastes.

I will say that this is a case of Han falling for instagram ads but DANG THIS IS A COOL READ. Did not end up going where I expected but I am very glad I tried it out. 4.5/5
This book is weird and quirky and fun. It'll be perfect for fans of [a:A.S. King|1651879|A.S. King|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1323437957p2/1651879.jpg]'s more recent stuff.

One of the strangest, mind bending, and twisty books I’ve ever read. Will be with me for a while.
A very very interesting read. Without giving anything away, this story takes an interesting detour from typical post-apocalyptic stories. Beautiful characters set against a not so beautiful world.
So, this did take me a while to get into, but if you decide to pick it up, I urge you to keep going! The Electric Kingdom is a wild look at a dystopian world that has been decimated by plague-carrying, carnivorous flies. It starts on an odd winter night with the birth of a girl in the middle of a traffic jam... and leads on a fantastical voyage, guided by little more than a fairy tale, to try to fix what has been broken.
While at times the narrative seems to lose the thread, hang in there. All is explained in the last 60 pages.
In the end, I thoughourly enjoyed this story... and the cover art is GORGEOUS!

This book reminded me a lot about the current times with COVID. Global pandemic, disease, figuring out a new way of life, etc. the author does a great job helping the reader relate to the characters and I felt like I could relate to what they were going through on a smaller scale.
