Chaol is just not my favorite. I just can’t bring myself to like him all that much. I don’t hate him. But I was also like.
Yrene. Couldn’t she have better. Glad that Nesryn did find better. Sartaq seems great, hope he lives!
the book was slower than the others, and it was kind of like. Does chaol really need a whole book to himself. Interesting new tidbits about Valg and Maeve.

Read in tandem with Empire of Storms… I can imagine it would have been a lot less exciting had I not read them together. EoS is a fucking gem. ToD is like Manon’s story in Heir of Fire… totally separate and slow to build to the point.., until suddenly it’s like oooohkay that’s why we’ve been put through this strange little side quest.

I dreaded reading TOD book on the heels of Empire of Storms (I even forced myself to take a reading break) - I was so angry at how EOS ended and I truly, truly did not want to read more about Chaol. Despite that: I loved this book. It's an adventurous pause from the heavy plot, and I loved exploring another continent in the universe... The twists were excellent and again, SJM writes compelling women.

The events in this book were important for the rest of the series, but an entire book devoted to my least favorite character was difficult to get through. However, once you get past all the woe-is-me business, it's still pretty good, and I'm glad Chaol found someone.
