The writing in this book is easy to read and quite beautiful in some parts. What let it down for me is that I didn’t feel that there was a satisfying conclusion or tying of loose ends to many of the issues brought up throughout the book. With so many characters, there was a lot to explore and I feel like the book got lost in connecting everything together rather than fleshing out the main plot of Soledad and her mother’s relationship.

Beautiful writing, a beautiful story of a mother and daughter rekindling their broken relationship. Definitely would recommend to a friend.

"My mother has the kind of face that when she smiles it makes you want to cry."

While I didn't love this quite as much as [b:Dominicana|43263696|Dominicana|Angie Cruz|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1553471215l/43263696._SY75_.jpg|67142499], I loved the similarities in them. Like Dominicana, this focuses mostly on the different generation of women in the one family and their complicated relationships with one another. I really enjoyed Soledad's character—her sections were the ones I found the most interesting.
