An enjoyable blend of how-to and memoir. Given that it deals a lot with office politics, loyalty, and trust, it would have been helpful to have more how-to about recognizing who'll actually have your back, and who'll ACT LIKE they have your back. The GenX pop-culture references were fun & familiar.

Really great book! The “lean in” for WOC. A book that touches on the micro aggressions and outright racism that many women of color experience. There was a tad too many references to pop-culture. It was funny at first but by the end it was just a bit much for me. I wanted to the real meat of the content and not just the “haha started from the bottom like drake” jokes. Overall definitely a book I’d recommend to women of color trying to get a leg up in the corporate world.

Minda Harts completely gives you a primer on career success. She addresses so many issues that women of color have in the work place. So many of the stories resonated with me or reminded me of the experiences my family members have had. I really enjoyed her focus on steps you can take to make your career your own. What stood out for me, was the idea of investing in myself and making mentorship a bigger part of my journey. This is a great read for professionals of all stripes, but it's a definitely created to help BIPOC women create and design their own careers.

Pre-COVID this would have been very informative but I think the increase in LinkedIn influencers makes this info less novel. If you are just beginning on your career this could be a good start.
