This book had some adorable moments. I enjoyed the chemistry between the leads. I felt like it was missing something. The story was mostly too straightforward. I wish i had been taken on more of a journey.

(Trust) Falling is a really fun, steamy adult romance and I loved the dynamics between the two main characters and the ways they worked off each other, in their mannerisms as well as their (often flirtatious) dialogue. Reid plays with a lot of well-known romance tropes in exciting ways here: enemies to lovers, opposites attract, and everyone’s favourite, there’s only one cabin and they’re going to have to share!

It is quite short as you can expect of novellas but it’s perfectly sized to give you a sweet story and allow room to get to know these characters (though we’ll have to wait to see if they’ll appear in more of Reid’s writing for further development). I could also really appreciate the maturity of these characters, especially after reading a number of young adult romances just before. Of course, there are things to enjoy from both genres, but I haven’t read many romances with mature characters more settled in their careers and it was nice to have the conflicts and decision-making of these characters reflect that maturity.

There’s very minimal conflict here but sometimes that’s exactly what you need (especially these days) and it works well here. Romance novels typically have some big blow-up but I much preferred the author’s take here in having the characters handle minor things as they came up, rather than introduce some larger conflict simply for the sake of conflict.

Highly recommend this feel-good read! Very much looking forward to reading of Reid’s romances that so prominently feature Black women.
