I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

And my only complaint about it? It was too short. Like, I'm not even lying. I wanted more from Yolanda and Sam's story. I wanted to see how they interacted at work before this week of team building. I loved the banter, the build up, everything here. This is my second by this author and I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us.

Some of the highlights:

How nature kept coming for my girl Yolanda. That would be in nature. I wouldn't leave my cabin. You bring the team building to me.

Sam's flirting. Man. I fanned myself a few times reading his lines.

How they came to an understanding about each other and grew in their relationship.

So good. I'm so happy with this.

This was a cute and fun novella. While I personally would’ve hated going on a team building trip with coworkers, this was a fun setting for a book.

Really cute and funny novella.

The plot is a tiny bit bonkers (if I had to share a cabin with a random colleague on a faculty retreat I’d simply go home)  —but fun nonetheless!

Notes: takes place in the woods in Wisconsin. Yolanda is a Black professor and Samuel is white. It’s a workplace romance at a faculty retreat. They are not in the same department, but are in the same college.

I wish the book was longer. This is my second read by Charish and I’m noticing similar themes/tropes within her characters. That’s not a bad thing as her characters are enjoyable, but I’m hoping to get something different in her other books.
