This was a thousand times darker than Wishbone's version. But you know what? I still enjoyed reading it (in so much as one can enjoy something brutal and violent). Still, I think this is such an important piece to read because so much in pop culture makes references to it.

I thought I'd miss the heightened language typical of translations of epic poetry, but Wilson's everyday modern English is incredibly readable and vivid. Loved it!

Very good! I have read up on Greek mythology before but this was my first time reading the actual texts themselves. This translation is highly approachable and has helpful notes in the back.

I really think this book is an all time classic. I can't say it really got me to think differently than I have before, but it was just a really good story. I know it might be expected as one of the all time greatest pieces of literature. Disregarding that fact I still think the story is amazing and it will always hold up.

Emily Wilson's translation is PHENOMENAL; I was actually able to read and understand the whole poem. I highly recommend reading the introduction and translator's note in this edition too. The story itself is only mediocre, bogged down by extremely irritating characters, but I'm glad I found a great translation to read anyway.

Ms. Wilson has made a beautiful, readable translation that I enjoyed immensely. I listened to the audiobook as well, narrated by Clare Danes and it definitely added to the experience and got me through some rough times at the dentist! The Odyssey's epic poetic structure is definitely made to be heard and Ms. Wilson's translation aims to make this apparent in English. Lovely translation for an epic story. I highly recommend this version of Homer's Odyssey.
