Surprisingly, I liked this book more than the first one. Now, I’m going to complain.

There is no way i’m going to believe that a family that powerful has refused to get the best therapy or any kind of help money can buy to deal with this horrible horrible trauma and guilt and loss and regret and god knows what else. They have all these professionals around them all the time and they think the thing that will help is pushing it down and larping an Agatha Christie book

The whole Eli and Mellie thing was so confusing not to mention throwing Eve in there, I have a feeling it’s going to matter somehow in the last book but it was almost too much all at once.

I am far more invested in whatever Xander and Max are insinuated to have going on than I am in whatever flippy-floppy Emily Laughlin relationship cosplay Avery is playing.

Overall Thoughts:
⁕ The characters' jumps in logic when solving the main mystery of the book were WILDLY far-fetched when compared to The Inheritance Games. I get that the plot must move onward, but the randomness of the clues and their meanings made it hard to participate as the reader.

⁕ The second half of the book redeemed itself through its poignant examination of love and relationships. It gave me all the feels, truly!!

⁕ I love that Barnes gave secondary characters (Rebecca and Max especially) an inch more of the spotlight. More! I want more!

Not as good as the First
I think since the first book was SO good, I had very high expectations for this one, the plot felt overdone and it made me confused when
the whole first book turned out it didn't matter and the ending felt very all over the place. Like first Avery gets blown up then kidnapped with little in between?
I would say that if you liked the first book still read this one but don't set your expectations too high.

The wrong brother was chosen. I enjoyed the first book so much I gave it five stars. Then I waited nine months for this one and was rather disappointed.
