This book had a lot of potential, the author even managed to make me feel a wide range of emotions towards the main characters, which is something I absolutely love when it happens but unfortunately, at some point, the story completely lost me.
Halfway through the book, I no longer knew what information was true and what was made up and not in a clever or intriguing way, just confusing. The way the plot was constructed made the story feel chaotic and hard to follow.
It also lacked realism, I didn’t believe this could be a real crime, and the characters didn’t feel like real people, everything came across as a bit forced. One of the characters clearly shows signs of a mental disorder, but the way it was portrayed felt exaggerated and even caricatured, which completely broke the credibility for me.
Natalie’s character was an absolute mess, and by the end, I felt like I didn’t know her at all.
The ending was also a disappointment. I didn’t like the unresolved parts, and it felt like something was missing, like there was a piece that should have made the whole thing worthwhile, but it just wasn’t there.
Considering this is a book by Freida McFadden, an author known for her smart, addictive psychological thrillers I honestly expected a lot more.

Meh. This is my third book of McFadden's and least favorite so far. The twists fell short for me. It was easy enough to get through, but the character development felt shallow, especially for Dawn. PSA to any authors that may read this: if your characters have autism, please don't make that their only personality trait.
