Cat Sebastian has, as far as I can tell, written more queer historical romance than anyone else. And yet, this is, as of my writing this review, her only sapphic book. It also appears to be her shortest book, or at least one of the shorter ones. I really don't like that. I don't like that this author, who has done an amazing job at filling the historical romance genre with queer stories, seems so reluctant to showcase love stories without men in them.
I am not accusing Cat Sebastian of anything. I'm just frustrated.
Now on to my thoughts about this novella.
A Little Light Mischief is cute. It's fun. It fits a lot of characterization and backstory into a very short book. All it's missing to be a full-length novel are a couple subplots and one or two additional sex scenes.
The heisting was fun. I enjoyed the characters. It just wasn't long enough to be super satisfying.

📖 A Little Light Mischief by Cat Sebastian Book Review 📖
6th book of January 2022 and 6th of the year:
This was a short queer historical fiction novella with lovable characters, a believable and loving relationship, a heist that serves as comeuppance for some bad people, lots of great tropes, and a story that channeled the phrase ‘be gay, do crime,’ and I loved it and will definitely be continuing on with Cat Sebastian's other books! TW for past physical and emotional abuse from a parent, alcoholism, sexual assault, and being kicked out of the house📖🎧💜🏳️🌈

This novella is part of a bigger series, but it read perfectly fine as a standalone. My main complaint is that it is on the short side, and I'd have liked a bit more detailed/longer pining.
The romance itself is sweet and fun, with both leads unsure if their feelings are really reasonable, considering their positions.
Alice's backstory is quite dark, hence the content warnings, but I liked how that was handled. Molly fully believes her, and supports her, which for me was the turning point in rooting for their relationship. There's also a bit of revenge going on, which in the current context was quite cathartic, I've got to say. Without spoiling, I can say the ending was quite satisfying and made me really happy - beyond the usual Happy Ever After that you expect from a romance.
I also really enjoy historical romance that's not just about the dukes and earls and whatnot, but about the common people, and the poorer among the gentry, so this ticked quite a lot of boxes for me.
I just hope Cat Sebastian writes more women loving women stories. I'll be here waiting for them, anyway!
