I was expecting specifically nothing and really really liked it. I love how it all flowed and how the author kept the peace so it wouldn't be boring. Maybe mermaids is exactly what I need for this summer! :)

This book is great! It’s exciting, unpredictable and just so much fun to read! The characters are all interesting and the mermaid lore is fascinating. I love the way it often feels like a Little Mermaid retelling for adults. My only issue is that book two isn’t out yet.

The guys passed the selfish and greedy check. This was like a little mermaid retelling but with 4 dudes, all of them literally used Coral. I didnt feel like they loved her cuz they just wanted her to catch fish and find treasure, and every time they were concerned about her it felt so fake. Coral loved them a lot and wanted to make them happy, she sacrificed so much but the guys are so fucking greedy. They only think about gold ( that Coral bought) and how they ll sell it and be rich, that’s literally all they think..oh and one of them wants to experiment on Coral so there is that. These guys did not love Coral, they simply used her.

I received this ARC from the author for an honest review. I am not paid in anyway.

So I went into this book with meh expectations. I am not the greatest fan of mermaid focused books. But I love reverse harem romance and I love some of Kellie McAllen's other books so I thought I could give this a chance! I came out of this book very surprised! I did not love it but I definitely thought it was better than I expected it to be!
Coral is a pretty decent lead female character. I like the fact that I could sympathize with her. She had some strict boundaries placed on her by her grandfather and you can definitely feel how that weighs on her as a person/mermaid. Then she escapes from that world and we follow her to land. It was nice to see that Coral had to react to the world above the water on a island where there is not to many other factors that would interfere with her learning. All in all she was a decent character to follow. The reverse harem aspect of this book was okay. I didn't really like the men, not because of the men themselves but because I didn't really get a lot of personality from any of them. This could be fixed with the next book of course but I'll have to wait to see.
I wanted more from the underwater world. The scenes that we get in the beginning of the book were excellent. That shocks me more than anything. I liked the mermaid aspect to this book instead of just relying on the reverse harem part. Usually its the other way around.
With that being said, I enjoyed this book! Its not perfect but it is pretty decent!!

I read this as part of the Sirens and Scales book bundle. I'm adding each work separately so reviews can more accurately reflect what I thought of the individual stories, rather than the compilation on a whole.

Excellent mermaid fantasy; I loved the slow burn and navigation into a polyamorous relationship. I am going to read the next book.
