Extremely boring, just like superman.
Batman has always been my favourite superhero and I enjoy Catwoman a lot, so it’s not surprising I enjoyed them more.

I hate not liking books. Authors spend a lot of time writing them. But there were things about this book that I personally didn’t like. The world building in this book felt isolated.. apart from smallville we only ever hear of one other location. The characters in this book felt like there was backstory that was missing. Some scenes felt rushed in terms of the pacing. I felt like Project Dawn / Dawnbreaker had a lot of plot holes, and I wasn’t really able to understand what it really was. I wish there would have been more information about Dr. Wesley (?), because we only ever see him around what? Four times? In the end I almost dnfed this book a good two times and it felt like it took over 2 weeks to read.

Maybe its because I've read too many other superman origin stories or maybe I'm not the target audience for this series but I wasn't blown away by this.
I have always liked Superman but feel many portrayals struggle a little with his goody-two-shoes nature. This is very similar to the Smallville TV series in tone, which isn't a bad thing, but I was left wishing the author has focussed more on the development of his powers (more of this please!) and not trying to add a mystery for 'the gang' to solve.
The modernisations of the story worked in most places but still felt a little strange to me. I felt the racial subplot seemed a little forced in places. I wished we could have gone all-in on this or removed it.
Overall I liked this but didn't love it.

It was okay. It was a cute little read. Nothing too exciting but not totally boring. I thought the end was a little dramatic compared to the rest of the events but I think I still enjoyed it more than Batman: Nightwalker

My problem isn't really with this book. I think the author did his best with the character he was given.
But I'm just going to say it. SUPERMAN IS OP. Come on, it is so obvious he was created to be idolized as the "perfect" man. He can literally do everything. Needs to see into another room, x-ray vision. Needs to lift someone with a broken leg and climb up an elevator shaft, no worries has super strengh. Needs to get somewhere fast, don't worry he can fly. Needs to protect his house from intruders, shoots laser beams from his eyes. Oh, and he's a nice guy that is humble about it.
I suppose I knew people said that about superman but this book really hit it home for me.
This doesn't create any tension in the story. I never thought anyone was in real danger.
