I really liked this story. The rhyme takes some getting used to, so definitely read it yourself before reading aloud. I like the pictures and the sweet examples of learning and failing. The prose is a bit unusual, so I'm not sure what kids would think of it. Might work better for slightly older kids, like 6+. Would inspire good discussions of what the pictures are showing.

I get what the intended message was supposed to be and it was meant to be inspiring. Unfortunately, I felt that it fell short. I had a hard time connecting the beginning thought to the punch, and I wasn't a huge fan of the illustrations either.

This was a sweet one. Could be paired nicely with "Oh, the Places You'll Go" and/or make a great gift for a graduate.

I’ve read this three times and like it more with each reading. Katherine Applegate’s poem is enhanced by JenniferBlack Reinhardt’s gorgeous art. I can see why it will be recommended as a gift for graduates.

I didn't buy it as a graduation gift. Because we don't need to pack it for moving. But....it was tempting.
