An 11-year-old English boy, Liam, accompanies his Mam to help old Henry Miller pack up to move to a retirement home. Liam is in training for the Great North Run and is less than keen to spend the morning with and old man. However, Liam and his mother find interesting artifacts in an old box, and we eventually hear the story of what sounds like one of Henry's fondest memories: the time he and two friends ran 13 miles from Newcastle to South Shields and the beach. Along the way, Veronica joins them, and she ends up being a special person in Henry's life.

This is a beautiful book about loving life and what memories endure into old age; I am not sure of the audience, however. Best for ages 10+

Perhaps the thing I liked best about this was Harry's insistence on happiness.

This is the David Almond that I like.
After finishing the terrible The True Tale of the Monster Billy Dean I gave him another go with this book, my 10th book of his now.
Now it is short and written for a younger audience, but it is really one that can be read by all ages, and has the beauty of nostalgia on it's side and the wonder of a little magic in the ending.
Well written and simple plot and execution, but well worth the short investment of time to read.
A very enjoyable read.
