I enjoyed this book. I love how the story is based on a fairy tale about how an old man and woman make a daughter from snow. In this book a married couple also make a snow girl, and later they spot a little girl. I loved the parts when the girl visited and they tried to earn her trust. This book is no fairy tale, and soon reality hits. The story is set in the middle of nowhere in Alaska and life is hard. The book is melancholic and slow-paced, which is why I don't give it 4 stars.

The book was absolutely magic until the last 30 or so pages. I was captivated by Jack and Maybel's story and the mystery of Faina. The last section was less than desireable and left me unsatisfied. It was an abrupt ending that left me feeling as though the author had no idea how to end it, so chose an easy way out. Other than that, it was very good.

This was my book club selection for this month. The timing couldn't have been more perfect. Escaping into 1920s Alaska while a snowstorm was raging in December 2016 outside my front door. This book is magical, with the hush & sparkle of freshly fallen snow.

This really is a beautiful book in which you follow a couple and eventually new characters. There is heartbreak and joy in between the pages and of course elements of fairytales.
