Not my favourite of the series, however, I did enjoy the progression of the characters that we already had and the addition of some new characters. Mainly Ferrus! This book looks more at the link between Catherine and her and her father's past. As always it is beautifully written and Taylor is able to place you into that time in history. One thing I really enjoy about these books is that there is a connection between Catherine and James, however, unlike many books where your main characters are male and female they are not forced into a relationship. Their friendship is slowly changing into possibly something more, but Taylor doesn't force in a way that it seems unnatural or to please his readers. Altogether another great addition to the Marwood and Lovett series.

Cat Lovett (Hawksby) and James Marwood battle through 1670 London’s Bawdy Riots to uncover a mysterious plot against the King. Rip-roaring and highly addictive.

It's the first book I read in this series and now I must read all the other because it's excellent.
I loved this entertaining and gripping story, the vivid and well researched historical background and the well thought characters.
The plot flows and is full of twists and turns.
It was an excellent read, highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

thanks to netgalley and the publishers for a free copy in return for an open and honest review

this the latest in the marwood and Lovett series felt was the weakest so far in the series and was really slow to get going and wasn't that exciting, maybe in the future Lovett can play a larger role in further plots.
