This is a cute, diverse, STEM academic rivals ya romance that I think high school readers would enjoy more, especially those who are interested or are into this topic.
Although it was cute and the robotics topics are pretty interesting to get into, as well as the characters, I honestly enjoyed their strong personalities, but I think the execution can be out of sync at times? There are times when scenes just jump into the next one without properly wrapping the current one.
Aside from the interesting topics, I enjoyed the characters' overall bond and development, even if there were times when I rolled my eyes. The leads are especially endearing, and I enjoyed their overall dialogue and scenes together.
Overall, I think this was pretty good; it's just that I didn't feel the hype? But it's still cute, and I'll read it again. 3.5 ⭐

It felt a little rushed at some points but overall I loved it, the epilogue is possibly my favourite part and all the characters seem really well developed

This is a book I want to give to my younger self. My Mechanical Romance is a coming of age love story with related characters, important themes, and the nostalgia of high school. Bel is a talented student who doesn’t know what she wants to do next and lacks some of the basic knowledge that she needs to be successful. Mateo is an overachieving student who feels like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders. Together they must learn from each other and take space for themselves. I loved so much about this story, but particularly how Alexene Farol Follmuth explored what is means to be a female in STEM.
This was a heartwarming quick ya romance that packed a punch with the deeper themes of the story. I recommend this novel for any young woman looking to pursue a STEM career.
