Let me just say this - despite me rating this less than 4 stars, I didn't dislike this book. I liked the book and might even go back and read the first book, but there was something that didn't sit right with me and I don't know what it is.
I love me a single parent, second chance trope, but something didn't work for me. I didn't dislike the MCs, though I thought that a lot of their shit could have been solved by communication. I didn't particularly like the bar owner, bc I felt like she was shoe-horned in to give the FMC the whole "hurt them and I will make sure you hurt" speech (like, was she threatening that she knew underworld peeps?) but maybe I would feel differently if I'd read the first book? I am not really a fan of the kid being written as much older than their stated age or giving them a regular POV... our MCs son was stated as being 6, but acting/speaking like he was 8 or 10 (so why not just make him that age?) but then regressing to acting like a 4 year old. I understand that he was needed to set the Parent Trap-like vibes (and instead of a long lost twin, he collabs with his BFF and his dad's teammates), but I kept getting thrown whenever we'd get to a chapter from his POV.
I do like that this addressed the hockey family issue, which almost never gets touched on in books. You have a player who is away for multiple days, sometimes weeks, at a time. He's a single dad who has a huge support system and our FMC hasn't known him in dad-mode. He's afraid she might find it all "too much" and they have to have the conversation about what life will look like for her and them as a family with him travelling and how to explore options for her to be able to follow/find her dreams while also learning how to be a parent to a child, not a baby. Watching them fumble through that was hella frustrating, but when they finally talked about it, it made total sense to their relationship and to the story.

The Nest series is so great! These hockey players and their relationships have me in a chokehold. Can’t wait for the other 2 books to be released this year

Disclaimer: I received this book for free from the publisher/author. I am leaving a voluntary review and all opinions are my own.
I was so intrigued by Henry's character when I read the first book in The Nest series. Henry was a single dad who adopted his son and was a professional hockey player. I wanted to know his story. Plus, Bodhi, his son, was so adorable!
Piper Rayne have a writing style that draws the reader in. It is easy to read and flows perfectly. I mesh with it so well. The plot of this book really hooked me. Second-chance romance isn't my top favorite trope but this one really intrigued me. The authors kept me enchanted from start to finish. I loved how the authors executed the plot. This story is more character-driven, but the world-building was easy to imagine and kept me rooted in this story.
These characters were everything! I formed such an attachment to all of the characters in this book, which started when I read Mr. Heartbreaker. These characters grew on me so quickly that they didn't take long to win me over. The addition of secondary characters in this book further solidified my fangirling over these characters. I loved Jade's family so much and paired with Henry's hockey family I was overflowing with glee. This series has some of the best found family and squad goals. The characters have such close relationships and they are ride or die for each other, which I am here for all day long. One of my favorite tropes is found family and Piper Rayne know how to write families that I wish I could be a part of. They write characters that I feel so attached to. All of the characters were distinct and had unique personalities that stood out. I loved the character growth of the main characters.
The romance in this book was absolutely heartwarming. This is a romantic couple that you will want to cheer for from the rooftops. Jade and Henry had intense chemistry that stemmed from knowing each other for so long and from deep-rooted feelings. Their love was entirely genuine and everyone knew that they belonged together.
The audiobook narration was excellent for this book. The narrators and the production were perfect.
Overall, this is a second-chance romance that delivers in every way. This book will get you in the feels. I highly recommend this series for folks who love found family in their stories. If you are a fan of close-knit friend groups then this series should be next on your TBR. Also, if you love seamless writing that draws you in, a strong plot, unforgettable characters, and a swoon-worthy romance then give this series a go.

There were some very cute moments in this book and I enjoyed the different perspectives, especially the Bodhi chapters. I also thought Jade and Henry had pretty good communication and I'm glad there wasn't too much back and forth considering their history. The only thing was I feel like for a second chance romance, I didn't feel like I was rooting for them as much as I should have been. I wanted them together, but there was just something missing with their chemistry. Part of me feels like the reason for their breakup wasn't impactful enough. I didn't really see why they couldn't reach out to each other, especially because they never really lost feelings. Even when they did work things out and decide to try again, there wasn't much wow factor for me. Overall though, I did like this book and it was a cute and simple read!

If you've been following my reviews, you know how much I love Single Dad Romances. It's one of my top four most loved tropes. Mr. Broody is not only a Single Dad Romance but also a second chance at first love Romance, which is always fun. What makes this one even better...is that we met Henry and Jade when they were little kids in Smitten with the Best Man. They were best friends as kids, grew up, and became High School Sweethearts. They had plans through college, but then, at the last minute, things changed, and Henry and Jade parted ways.
It was fun watching Henry and Jade fumble around while they got to know one another again, and the chapters from Bohdi's POV, Henry's son, were the icing on the cake. He navigated things so Henry and Jade would run into one another like a pro; kudos to the kid.
I had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook of Mr. Broody, and the ensemble cast did a magnificent job of bringing each person to life. JF Harding & Brooke Bloomingdale were the main characters, and Sean Masters, Connor Crais, Troy Duran, Teddy Hamilton & CJ Bloom were this book's supporting cast. I love how this audiobook was performed and wish more were done this way.
I recommend this (audio)book to readers who enjoy STEAMY Contemporary Romances, Single-Dad Romances, Found-Family Romances, Sports Romances, Close Proximity Romances, Second-Chance Romances, or Childhood Sweetheart Romances.
Happy Reading!!!

Format: Audiobook
Narrators: Duet Narration by JF Harding and Brooke Bloomingdale Also featuring Sean Masters, Connor Crais, Troy Duran, Teddy Hamilton, and CJ Bloom

Book # for 2024: #107
SYNOPSIS: Jade and Henry broke up eight years ago. When Jade becomes his son Bodhi’s substitute teacher, they get a second chance at love.
MY THOUGHTS: I loved this book so much! I’m not usually a fan of second chance romances or the single parent trope, but I loved this one so much. Often, it feels like the couple doesn’t resolve the issues that lead to their original break up, but it felt like they did in this book. I also loved Henry’s son, Bodhi. He is precious and I loved how this book handled adoption. Now, I need to read the rest of the series!
I really enjoyed the audiobook. I definitely prefer dual narration and all of the narrators were phenomenal in this one!
Thank you to Piper Rayne and Valentine PR for the ALC!
