I think I would’ve liked this book more if the pacing would’ve been slower.

OK, yeah, no, I'm done.  DNF at 75%, so I'm counting this as fully read.  Not about pirates, not interesting, and the FMC just got more annoying? Dialogue was AWFUL, spice was ridiculous.  Had so much potential.

If you know me, you know how much I love pirates and how much I love vampires. I will read any book that includes either of those things. So when I found out that Katee Robert's new book was a pirate romance, I lost my absolute shit. I was imagining a sweeping, angsty romance a la Pirates of the Caribbean. That's unfortunately not really what this was... certain parts were a lot of fun and high octane, but the rest wasn't really what I was wanting for a pirate romance.

This was very underwhelming for me. Especially given how much I have loved Katee Robert in the past. There was very lackluster chemistry between Bowen and Evelyn. They felt like coworkers more than romantic partners.

Anyways... probably won't continue with this particular series, but I will always read any new Katee Robert outside of this series. Hopefully I will finally get the Will Turner/Elizabeth Swann romance I have always wanted.

This book wasn't even on my radar until I got an ARC for the second in the series and I'm so glad I had an excuse to read it.

It's so much fun, a really quick and easy read and I'm super excited to jump straight into the next book.

I love a good dual POV story and found that it really helped with the world building, which is really interesting. Yes, there's an element if instalove, which isn't usually for me, but it meant we got some good spice so I'll forgive it. It also ensured the story moved on at a good pace so there was plenty of action and it has setup the next part of the story well.

Is it a groundbreaking book? No. But I thoroughly enjoyed it, got through it fast and loved every page. Bonus points for queer rep and the use of neo-pronouns throughout.

Vampires, Witches, and PIRATES?! YES PLEASE. I did not think this would work, but it did. I loved everything about this book. Bowen? YES. Evelyn? YES. Both together? YESSSS. Fleeing from her vampire ex, Evelyn falls through a portal into another realm. She is found by pirates with a telekinetic captain, Bowen.

Forced proximity, enemies to lovers, witch/telekinetic.
