I received a copy of this unsolicited religious propaganda in the mail as spam to try to get me to buy Matthew Kelly's The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity. The accompanying letter was just a repeat of the back cover followed by a PS asking me to buy the other book and an encouragement to "start creating some Holy Moments." Gross.

I read this book over the course of the entire Lenten season - one chapter per day - and it was incredible. I loved Matthew Kelly's insight into the life of Jesus - not to mention following along with Dynamic Catholic's Best Lent Ever email program. Although it got repetitive and generic from time to time (there was also some overlap between this book and Rediscover Catholicism which I was reading at the same time) I didn't mind it. As Christians we need the reminders from time to time as well as the guidelines to generate healthier and deeper relationships with Jesus Christ. I can honestly say this book helped contribute to my most fulfilling Lent ever.

Looking to step it up a bit for Lent this year? I cannot recommend Matthew Kelly's Rediscover Jesus: An Invitation highly enough.

If you have looked at this book and others like it before (maybe even passed them on to someone else), but thought they're not really meant for you - you're wrong.

If you think your spiritual life is too advanced for a book like this, you're wrong.

If you don't like Matthew Kelly and have therefore dumped this book into the "that's probably very nice, but it's not for me" category, you're wrong.

If you walked past it on the back table at church thinking "someone else probably needs it more than me," you're wrong.

It doesn't matter where you are in your faith journey - whether you and Jesus are besties or you're not even really sure if he's for real or anywhere in between - this book can be for you.

This book changed how I thought of things. I put stickie notes besides some thoughtful passages/quotes and it was a great and fresh start to Lent this year.

I give this book 4 stars not because of how the book was written or the story of the book but because I think I read this book in the incorrect way. I wish I would have truly meditated on each chapter. Allowing myself an hour to read the short chapter. That way I could think about the verse at the end or add the recommendation to a to do list. I did not do this however and it left me forgetting things quickly that I don't want to forget. I would read multiple chapters at a time and it didn't allow me the meditative element that by the end, I feel is very important. However, in the end I think that I learned something and that even if I don't remember everything up front that my subconscious will consider it. Many of the chapters I enjoyed or found interesting or insightful. There were one or two that I found the topic either possibly not true or not as obvious as the author made it seem or not as interesting. But besides those like 3 chapters (at random parts not in order) I liked the "story" line.

This isn't the type of book you pick up and enjoy reading. You have to want it at least to some extent. But even if you don't think you need it or it doesn't fit your beliefs, I think it can give you interesting insight or concepts that you will still be able to use or something along those lines.

I've had this on my shelf for years but only recently picked it up. It took a few chapters for me to get the hang of the book, but once I did I was hooked.

I found that this book was a great reminder of some basic principles of Christian living. God is inviting us to holiness, holiness is achievable, we can have an incredible relationship with Christ, daily reading of Scripture is imperative. These aren't new themes. You're not going to stumble across something here and go, "Oh, that's what I've been doing wrong!" Rather, this book is a great refresher and reminder of how to live a Christian life.

There are 40 chapters here, which would make it a great book to read and reflect on throughout Lent. But it's good through the rest of the year too.
