Another non-fiction that started out strong, but did not present enough diverse information or insight to carry the length of the book.
That said, I did enjoy it, and love to have directed scripture reading and points to ponder.

This is the second book I’ve read by Matthew Kelly and while his tone is easy reading and conversational, which I like, it just never gets me further than that. I WANT to love this because it’s tangible and probably an easy book to hand to those questioning and wondering about this whole God thing. But, it’s almost day 20 before it really digs in. And mostly, it was just highly repetitive, which is a characteristic of his writing style (he’s also a public speaker so it makes sense because if you repeat something a lot people tend to remember it more). I think there is value to this, it just may not be for someone like me. And that’s okay! So if you’re a beginner or just brushing back against Jesus after years away then give it a go! If you’re someone just looking for a boost or rekindling of your faith, I’d probably look some place else. But what do I know, I’m not you, this is just my opinion.

I've been on a journey of rediscovery for a little over a year now and I'm learning new things about Jesus each and every day. This book was given to me by my Nana and I knew if she enjoyed it...I wouldn't be let down. I also realized about four chapters in that I've read a few books by Matthew Kelly before and he's also never let me down, so I was excited for what was in store. The thing I love most about Kelly's writing is how easy it is to read. He splits up the book into meaningful chapters that each have a theme to follow. He also weaves scripture into this book so effortlessly and encourages you to connect the verses to your own life. My absolute favorite thing about this book was the little reflection piece that he has at the end of each chapter. Each chapter ends with (1) a point to ponder, (2) a verse to live, (3) a question to consider, and (4) a prayer. I loved this element because it really helped to tie each chapter together and actually make you thing about what you've just read. Kelly also includes a "transformation prayer", a list of "daily ways to rediscover Jesus", and an explanation of what he calls "the prayer process"...which I believe definitely added to the usability of the book. I personally read the book through over the course of a few days, but Kelly also encourages readers to use this book as a form of daily prayer by reading a chapter each day. While reading I spent time highlighting and sticky noting my favorite parts and I could definitely see myself turning back to this book in the future. Overall, Kelly encourages readers to rediscover Jesus in a way that doesn't overwhelm the reader or make them feel bad about themselves. He ends by encouraging readers to allow God to inspire them, so they can inspire others. Hopefully this review inspires you to check this book out. God bless.

This book is simplistic, I both liked and didn't like that aspect of it. This is a book that I do want to revisit. I've been reading it sporadically on breaks at work and plan to continue doing so, only this time, I'd like to stop at the end of each chapter to think through the questions and prayers he provides. Kelly gives lots of points to ponder, scripture to look up and inspiration to start reading the Gospels. My greatest takeaway from this book is the following prayer, Kelly calls this a prayer that God will answer (if you want to see miracles, he says, pray this every day):

Loving Father,
Here I am.
I trust that you have an incredible plan for me.
Transform me. Transform my life.
Everything is on the table.
Take what you want to take and give what you want to give.
Transform me into the person you created me to be, so I can live the life you envision for me.
I hold nothing back;
I am 100 percent available.
How can I help?
Amen.

I'm glad I chose to read this along with the Best Lent Ever program because I got more from this than the series. I need more depth.

I received a copy of this unsolicited religious propaganda in the mail as spam to try to get me to buy Matthew Kelly's The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity. The accompanying letter was just a repeat of the back cover followed by a PS asking me to buy the other book and an encouragement to "start creating some Holy Moments." Gross.

I read this book over the course of the entire Lenten season - one chapter per day - and it was incredible. I loved Matthew Kelly's insight into the life of Jesus - not to mention following along with Dynamic Catholic's Best Lent Ever email program. Although it got repetitive and generic from time to time (there was also some overlap between this book and Rediscover Catholicism which I was reading at the same time) I didn't mind it. As Christians we need the reminders from time to time as well as the guidelines to generate healthier and deeper relationships with Jesus Christ. I can honestly say this book helped contribute to my most fulfilling Lent ever.
