This was one of the best historical fiction novels I have ever read. I felt, from page 3, that I was in old Japan. The descriptions, the characters, the story lines brought me in and kept me completely enthralled.

holyyy, this was a long one. they had me in the first half, i'm not gonna lie. i think the show does a great job trimming the fat this book has in the later 500 pages. it almost feels like the mini-epilogue was tacked on because people would be so dissatisfied with its abrupt ending. i enjoyed the way it was written, but many have commented into oblivion that there are a good chunk of inaccuracies with the japanese language and other details. mileage may vary, overall i liked it but am glad to be done with it.
