The writing at times is very immature. Often thoughts would be scattered paragraphs away from where it started, or events would become repetitively told to the reader within the same chapters. Some events that transpired don’t make sense to have been included, it feels like they were cheap shots at making a “diverse” and “deep” cast. Pages were clearly taken from Lemony Snicketts writing in silly chapter set ups, but it just makes it feel like a poorly written YA novel. Feel as though the story idea is good, but needed a more stern publisher to steer it in the right direction.

WOW I HAVE NO WORDS! I honestly have no idea what to say THAT ENDING

THE REBEL QUEEN IS KIVA’S MUM!!! SHES A HEALER AND SHES GOING FOR THE CROWN MY DUDES! Jaren has no idea what he’s in for damn. Also Tip is alive thank god 🙏 Naari is one of my favourite characters she better survive the next two books

I’m a student nurse and had a great time reading Kiva’s perspective of caring for her patients

I did call the poison quite early though 😂

this book is a really great read and I highly recommend, can’t wait to read the second book! Make sure to check trigger warnings if that’s something you look at before reading - I’ve listed them as best I can  :)

This one snuck up on me - in the end I realized what a good time I had. A lot darker than anticipated in some spots.

I'm not sure if the first half of this book was a little slow or if I was still coming down from the torrential downpour of depression from finishing CC3. Probably both. It took me about two weeks to read the first half, but I finished the second half in an afternoon. Really enjoyed the characters and, for the most part, the premise. Pure YA romance. No spice. The slow burn kept me going through some pretty rough days lately, I'm not going to lie. One of the more tender moments even brought me to tears. But the ending? Um, excuse me, Ms. Noni, but I have *questions*. I'm going to take a short break and then finish this trilogy.

Lynette Noni, the author you are! This book is really impressive and the twists at the end were shocking! I'm so excited to read Jaren's chapter! This book was scary, gritty and shocking. Definitely recommending this book to everyone I know!
