This book gave me insight into what it is like to live outside the legal system in Britain and the difficulties of being functionally illiterate. The characters are loveable and complex, they feel like real people with real lives. The story is simultaneously propelled mostly by the characters' individual experiences and the twists and turns inflicted on them by others.

This book was so sad in places, but it really shows the resilience of people living in poverty. It made me appreciate my bed and the food that I'll be eating today. If I could take anything away from this book, it would be to ask for help if you need it. People will help if you let them. A brilliant book with interesting characters, beautiful settings and extremely readable writing. Loved it.
