Oooh this one was twisty. About halfway in it turns into a completely different story (the backstory) and it got all kinds of crazy. I liked it. I wasn't sure at first once the backstory bit, but by the end I felt as though I had been on a rollercoaster ride, which is always the sign of a good thriller. It was really fast paced, it felt like something big was happening on nearly every page.
Libby, reeling from a recent miscarriage and a strained marriage, jumps at the chance to escape her city life by swapping her Bath flat for a stunning Cornish house overlooking the sea. This seemingly idyllic escape is intended to provide solace, especially after the unwanted attention she receives following her heroic rescue of students from a school fire.
However, the Cornish paradise soon takes a sinister turn. A sense of unease lingers as Libby is plagued by flashbacks to a traumatic fire in a Thai hostel during a previous vacation. The idyllic house feels almost too perfect, and a lurking figure adds to the growing sense of unease.
