This book was so interesting. The writing was beautiful and lyrical. But most of all it sent a message that seeking what our personal legends are and how to get them we learn many things from people in the journey. I don’t think that I’ll be forgetting this book anytime soon. 4.5 stars.

The Alchemist felt like a conversation between my soul and God! In search of his destiny the shepherd realises his purpose, faith, and love which shows touches the whole ‘it’s not just the destination but also the journey’ theme. I love how Paulo Coelho’s Catholic faith is woven into the story. There are lines, like “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof,” that immediately brought me back to Mass and reminded me of the quiet strength that faith offers.
The idea of following your “Personal Legend” or in other words your destiny made me think about how often we silence our own hearts in the noise of the world. I love how Paulo Coelho’s Catholic faith is sprinkled into the story. There are lines, like “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof,” that immediately brought me back to Mass and reminded me of the quiet strength that faith offers. I love how he sees God and signs in normal things of this world. He talks about faith as an action and not just as words (or dreams in this case) as the protagonist acts on his dreams(James 2:17). The book also talks about other Catholic teachings like forgiveness, trust and true love amongst other things. Reading the epilogue made me realise how much of a religious man PC is and you can see his beliefs in his writing in the most subtle manner without it being so ‘in your face’ which is nice.
PC talks about letting go of the things you love and trusting they’ll return if they’re meant to, but honestly, that’s something I struggle with. If you truly love someone or something deeply, letting go doesn’t come easy. Love, to me, is something you hold onto and fight for not something you give up on so easily.
What stayed with me most is how the book gently reminds us to stay open to the signs, to trust in something greater than ourselves, and to never lose sight of what makes our hearts feel alive.
DNF at 51%, was bored and couldn’t really remember anything from what I had read

A classic that deserves every piece of praise it has ever gotten. There was something so special about santiago facing all of these adversities with acceptance and love.

Absolutely superfluous, lacking depth, growth and any meaningful message. Anything this book can teach you you can find it inside a fortune cookie.
This book is an amazing litmus test for differentiating those that say that read and those that actually read.
Boring and on the nose, a waste of time.
