I was never a fan of the Fear Street novels. They were too simplistic and never felt true to teen life to me (and I was a teen when they came out). I'm re-reading some YA horror novels from a writer I loved and thought I'd give a few of these a whirl. I re-read two earlier novels and thought they were just as bad as I remembered. Decided to try one later in the series in case they got better.

Well, they don't. This was every bit as ridiculous as the early Fear Street novels. Someone did actually die in this book which made for a change but otherwise it was just as bad as the rest of these books.

I guess I might recommend these for highly sheltered pre-teens and teens but no average teenager would find these characters believable.

Not the worst book ever, but not good either. All the characters were absolutely unlikable, and while the idea was alright, the execution was really lacking in my opinion. The cliffhangers felt really cheap, and the fact that I did not care for a single character made the whole thing incredibly boring, since I wasn't invested at all in finding out what would happen next or if they'd make it. I also hated how the girls were always told that they should have a boy with them to protect them or help them. I don't think it was meant that way (or not entirely), but it did read as if girls couldn't do anything on their own.
Could have been worse, but was very far from good in my opinion. (Also the fact that Donna couldn't tell her friends apart by their voice felt incredibly stupid.)

I typically find R.L. Stine’s Fear Street novels to have at least one good twist. All Night Party unfortunately has an unoriginal storyline. Coupled with the toxic masculinity and sexism that are regular themes in Stine’s books, Fear Street #43 was not a diverting way to spend an afternoon.

Being that this was my first proper Fear Street read, I was pleasantly surprised. This was honestly pretty fun, and very quick, I basically flew through it, and I was a little shocked when the killer was revealed. I was definitely inspired to pick up some books from this series after my watch of the Netflix Fear Street trilogy, and I'm happy I did, can't wait to pick up another one.

Sigh, from what I've learned from this Cramathon.. I don't love R.L. Stine's Fear Street books as much as I used to. It's nostalgic for sure, but the writing is very notably juvenile for my taste (however, I find that this doesn't apply to the Fear Street Saga [The Betrayal, the secret, and.. I forgot the 3rd one and then the other bind-up of the trilogy following called "Cursed"]). This book was enjoyable because it didn't feel as "Oh my God! I cannot believe that happened!" (meaning the main narrator didn't sound as naive) as the other ones I've read for this cramathon. The ending also wasn't as predictable as I thought it was going to be. This book really has the bare bones for a really cool story, but I just wish it was a smidge more "mature". I really love how fast it is to get through the Fear Street books though, I will still keep reading and searching for the ones that don't have my cynical self rolling my eyes and how "shocked" the main character is that something ELSE bad happened.
