This was my first book from Linda Howard and I wasn't sure about it at first. However I really liked the banter between the main characters and the setting was interesting.

Sometimes it felt a little slow in between (even though it is a pretty short book overall).

Quick CW though: there is one scene with dubious consent in my opinion, also a lot of grieving and death / murder. If you struggle with these topics, please be aware and do a little research if this book is for you or not.

I liked Sarah and was so disappointed that she didn't get to use her skills to rescue herself. I couldn't understand why we were spending so much time with the off-putting cop until I realized he was the love interest (not a fan).

Milo's love!

I give "Dying to Please" by Linda Howard an "A"... for average.

Unoriginal, uninspired and at times, painful.

This is a story told from the perspective if a butler, and a female one no less. Intriguing, right? Well, I found that after the gripping opening to the story there wasn’t much to deliver. The story is very formulaic and predictable. Sometimes I like my stories to be predictable and familiar. There is comfort in knowing the good guys are good and the bad guys are bad. However, predictable dialogue is a story killer and I just couldn’t get over the cop jumping in the sack with someone involved in an ongoing investigation, suspect or no. I thought it was creepy. Once I lose my respect for the good guys, I usually lose my interest too. This book was no different.

Badass butler and the cop who distrusts her.
