A bit dated and my daughter was bored by some of the detail, but I thought it was a sweet story and I'm glad we read it.

Read this one with my students. Having grown up on this movie, seeing the original book is a very interesting time!

FUN, FUN!! I read this out loud to my 5 year old son and 7 year old daughter - and we all loved it! As darling as the movie - which I've seen, but they haven't . My daughter was literally jumping with excitement while Babe performed at the sheep dog (pig) trials - very engaging for her. Fun to read aloud - the wife has crazy run-on sentences that made my kids laugh hysterically.

It is almost fact that the book is always better than the movie, but to be honest I found myself disappointed with the original. Still a darling story but the characters were not as developed (and some were missing like Ferdinand!). It is a quick read so you can read the story and watch the movie in the same day and make your own comparison.
