Holy hellfuck…this book equal parts trilled me and frustrated me. I’m grateful there’s less than a year til the next installment!
I guessed most of the “twists” that were revealed. I wish there’d been some more world building, maybe book 2 will expand on that. Overall, I had a good time and was at the edge of my seat during a few tense moments.

feels like the FMC is just rambling and I’m not really attached to any characters…feels like everything is moving so fast but so slow at the same time…just not having a good time.

FMC was a little obnoxious but that’s nothing new with dystopian romantasy. I wasn’t clear who the MMC was for a bit, but enjoyed exploring his side of things. About 85% of the way through the book things majorly change and my interest was piqued. Cliffhanger after cliffhanger at the end leaves me ready for the second book in the series.

Pacy, dystopian, unique. Enjoyable! Grown-up hunger games meets divergent, with a mature magic system.
I did enjoy this book, however this could have leaned into the dystopian vibe way more than it did and the same goes for the magic. The magic was introduced in the beginning and then nothing became of it really until the end it was barely even mentioned for the best part of the book. The world building was pretty eh and a lot of the plot was predictable.

This was easily gliding its way to be a 5 star read....
until the 70% mark when Wren heard the words "I love you" coming from Wolf/Cross and she became all nonsense and stupid decisions. I'll give the author their flowers, the twists were good, the wolf/cross thing was predictable but it was set up nicely.
Lyddie's betrayal hurt like hell, even though I could see it happening, I thought she would at least fight for her friend but since she very obviously had a crush on Travis, I am not surprised she gave wren up. Well either she was sleeping with Travis or with Roe, regardless she is a rat. I am glad Kaine turned out to be alive but it is a little out of left field that he is aiding the resistance. Also, Jim's letter explains why the resistance was ready to let Wren die, if her parents betrayed them and all.
